The repositories provided in Debian-based Linux distributions (Debian, Ubuntu, Mint) contain a wealth of excellent free software, but it is not the only source of programs. Many independent developers post their work on the Internet in the form of a .deb file that you can download and easily install using the GDebi Package Installer.
NitroShare, available for Linux, Windows and Mac, allows you to transfer files across your internal home network from one computer to another. It’s simple to set up, use and install.
Once you’ve downloaded the appropriate file, simply right-click on it and select Open With “GDebi Package Installer”.
This will launch the GDebi installer program:
NitroShare will require the installation of 2 other software packages. Don’t let that worry you. Just click on the Install Package button, enter your password, and the installer will automatically download all necessary files before installing NitroShare.
That’s it. There’s nothing to compile. There’s no command line gobbledygook to enter. You’re done!
The program is now installed and ready to use.
It’s important to note that many, but not all, .deb files are available in both 32 and 64-bit versions.
Check your Linux and Windows operating systems to make sure that you get the correct version of the program you wish to install.
The GDebi Package Installer is your gateway to a better Linux computing experience. A plethora of free software awaits. Go for it!
